Lector or Scripture Reader
Thank you so much for volunteering at Family of Christ! We could not be a successful, influential, loving congregation without your commitment and involvement.
As a Lector or Scripture Reader you are reading the Scriptures during worship service at Family of Christ Lutheran Church to the congregation. The Scripture readings will be sent to you the week of your Sunday (usually Thursday). Please read them over (maybe even practice them out loud) and check for pronunciation difficulties. If you have any questions, please talk to one of the pastors during the week or on Sunday before the service. A 16pt copy will also be on the pulpit.
Please read through the following responsibilities:
- Please come early to worship and check the Pulpit (place on altar area with microphone you will read from) ahead of time to make sure it has the readings on it. If readings are not there, check with Pastor or use the weekly bulletin.
- After the Children’s Message, please come forward to the pulpit.
- Lesson
- If there is a first reading, begin the reading saying: “A reading from (insert the book’s name, i.e. Genesis), chapter (insert chapter number, i.e. 3).” It isn’t necessary to announce the verses.
- Read the scripture
- End the reading by saying “The word of the Lord, Thanks be to God.”
- Gospel
- Start with an invitation of the people by saying “Please rise as you are able for the reading of the Gospel”
- Begin the Gospel by saying “The Gospel is from (insert the book’s name, i.e. Luke), chapter (insert chapter number, i.e. 3).” It isn’t necessary to announce the verses.
- Read the scripture
- End the reading by saying “The word of the Lord, Thanks be to God.”
Thanks for your ministry!
